Homeward Bound Programs
At Homeward Bound, we provide a structured and purpose-driven journey that transforms homelessness into homeownership.
As part of the Do Good On Purpose initiative, our programs are powered by the HumanKind Helps pathway, where participants earn Mortgage Credit Hours through volunteer service while building financial stability, life skills, and community connections.
Our step-by-step design ensures no one remains stuck in crisis. Each stage offers safe housing, accountability, and support, ultimately leading to the milestone of owning a deeded tiny home.
Homeward Bound offers a four-phase program that provides safe shelter, personal development opportunities, and a clear path to sustainable homeownership.
The journey begins at the From Here Onward Homeless Shelter, where individuals experiencing homelessness find immediate safety, meals, and case management.
Purpose:
Provide safe, sober, and dignified short-term housing.
Assess readiness for the HumanKind Helps pathway.
Connect residents with health, recovery, and supportive services.
Eligibility for Starter Village:
Demonstrated sobriety and stability.
Willingness to engage in volunteer service.
Agreement to follow program rules and expectations.
This stage ensures that when participants move into Starter Village, they are prepared to succeed.
Starter Village is the first residential step of the Homeward Bound program. Here, participants transition into a gated community of pods for up to six months.
Housing:
Secure pod housing (8' x 10') for two residents, furnished with beds, desks, chairs, and climate control.
Access to shared bathrooms, showers, dining, and community spaces.
Services Offered:
Personalized case management and mentorship.
Life-skills workshops in budgeting, cooking, and employment readiness.
Opportunities for community participation and service.
Commitment:
Serve 10–15 hours weekly in approved volunteer roles.
Maintain accountability and stability through regular check-ins.
Transition:
Upon successful completion, participants move into Good Samaritan Village.
Good Samaritan Village is where participants live in their own tiny home for the first time while continuing their service journey.
Housing:
Fully furnished tiny homes (under 399 sq. ft.) with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or loft, and living area.
A supportive community environment fostering independence.
Services Offered:
Financial literacy and career readiness training.
Ongoing mentorship and skill development.
Peer-to-peer support and community service projects.
Mortgage Credit Hours:
Serve 10–18 hours weekly in supervised volunteer roles.
Complete milestone trainings and reach the 1,500-hour requirement for homeownership eligibility.
Transition:
Successful participants progress to homeownership or, for Veterans, into the Permanent Party Village track.
Veterans in Homeward Bound follow a dedicated pathway into the Permanent Party Village, a tiny home community reserved for those who have served.
Here, veterans live in their own homes while continuing to earn Mortgage Credit Hours until deed eligibility is reached.
This ensures dignity, stability, and permanent housing for those who served our nation.
The final milestone of the Homeward Bound program is receiving the deed to a tiny home built by Permanent Party Homes.
