At Homeward Bound, we believe every person deserves the chance to rebuild their life with dignity and stability. As a transformative housing pipeline under Do Good On Purpose, our mission is to provide individuals facing homelessness with a clear, structured pathway to homeownership through the HumanKind Helps program.
By combining immediate shelter, meaningful volunteer service, milestone-based training, and sustainable tiny home living, participants earn Mortgage Credit Hours that lead directly to a deeded home. This is more than housing—it’s a journey to independence, purpose, and a permanent foundation for the future.
Our mission is simple yet life-changing:
To end homelessness by turning service into ownership.
Through structured programming, mentorship, and progressive housing stages, HumanKind Helps gives individuals the tools, accountability, and support to reclaim control of their future and achieve lasting self-sufficiency.
We provide a step-by-step pathway that meets people where they are and guides them forward through stable housing, personal growth, and ultimately, ownership.
Participants begin in the From Here Onward Homeless Shelter, where they find immediate safety, case management, and supportive services. This short-term shelter sets the foundation for stability and prepares residents to move into Starter Village.
In Starter Village, residents live in compact pod housing for up to six months. Here they:
• Begin logging 10–15 Mortgage Credit Hours weekly through approved community service.
• Participate in case management and life-skills training.
• Learn financial basics, job readiness, and personal growth habits.
This stage is about proving readiness, stability, and accountability.
Next, participants transition into Good Samaritan Village, where they live in their own tiny home (under 399 sq. ft.) for up to 18 months. During this time, they:
• Increase service to 10–18 hours weekly
• Complete milestone trainings (budgeting, financial literacy, tenancy readiness)
• Continue earning Mortgage Credit Hours toward the 1,500-hour threshold
This stage builds deeper independence while preparing for ownership.
Veterans who enter Homeward Bound follow a dedicated track into the Permanent Party Village, a community of tiny homes reserved for those who have served. Veterans live in their own homes while continuing to earn Mortgage Credit Hours until they reach deed eligibility, honoring their service with permanence and dignity.
When all program criteria are met—Mortgage Credit Hours, milestones, and readiness—participants achieve the life-changing milestone of owning their own tiny home, built by Permanent Party Homes.
• They receive a free-and-clear deed to their tiny home.
• Relocate to another tiny home community permanent site.
• Step into a sustainable, independent future of stability and pride.
